research study

We are composing a study about the efficacy of the digital therapeutic mobile app, Thrive Mental Wellbeing, in reducing anxious and depressive symptoms in the working population.

What is the study about?

Mental health disorders, especially anxiety and depression, are on the rise worldwide. A lack of healthcare resources means this mental health crisis is not being tackled effectively, and many individuals in need are currently unable to access mental health services. Mobile applications for mental health are potentially useful resources, considering the widespread use of mobile phones. In the current study, we aim to investigate whether a mobile application, Thrive Mental Wellbeing (thrive.uk.com), can be beneficial in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression in the adult population in full-time employment.

Why should I take part?

As well as helping us to improve our services for users, all participants taking part in the initial screening survey will be entered into a lottery to win a £100 Amazon Voucher.

If you are eligible for the study:

If you are selected to participate in this study, you will have the chance to win up to £600 and lifetime access to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app and integrated services!

If you participate in this study you will be allocated to either the control group or one of two intervention groups. Everyone, regardless of group allocation, will need to complete 4 questionnaires. The first questionnaire will collect general demographic information, and all questionnaires will include an anxiety and depression scale. If you are allocated to an intervention group you will either be given access straight away to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app alone or to the Thrive app as well as its integrated coaching and counselling service. If you are randomised into the control group, you will receive instructions to download the app at the end of the study.

If you are given access to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app alone you will be instructed to use the app once a day for at least 5-10 minutes, and you will be expected to have completed the 25 CBT sessions embedded in the App. If you are given access to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app as well as its integrated coaching and counselling service you will be asked to take part in 6 counselling sessions over the 8-week period as well as engage with any CBT session or in-app activity the counsellor may advise you to complete. You are also free to further engage with the app in the way you prefer in either intervention group.

If you are allocated to the control group, you will answer all questionnaires without receiving the intervention. Once the study is over you will be offered the same intervention as the group that was given access to the Thrive Mental Wellbeing app and its integrated coaching and counselling service.
